Caring for your FAI FLEUR

Every piece is crocheted by hand, loop by loop. With a little tenderness, it will keep its shape, softness and shine for years.

Caring for your FAI FLEUR

I · Washing

Hand wash, gently

Our yarns are delicate and deserve a quiet bath. Fill a basin with cool water and a few drops of mild wool or silk wash.

Submerge the piece and let it soak for ten to fifteen minutes. Press the water through softly; never rub, twist or wring.

  • Cool water only, never hot
  • Use a pH neutral, gentle detergent
  • Never machine wash or tumble dry
  • Wash beaded pieces inside a soft cotton bag

II · Drying

Reshape and dry flat

Lift the piece with both hands, supporting its full weight. Roll it in a clean towel to draw out the water.

Lay it flat on a fresh towel, ease it back to its original shape and let it dry naturally, away from direct sun and heat. This preserves the tension of every stitch.

  • Never hang a wet crochet piece
  • Smooth seams and edges with your fingertips
  • Turn once halfway through drying

III · Storage

For long-term storage: Fold your crochet piece rather than hanging it.

Store it:

* Clean and completely dry * Folded neatly * In a cool, dry environment * Away from direct sunlight * Away from moisture * Away from rough or abrasive garments * Away from sharp objects

For heavily embellished pieces, store the garment loosely folded or flat where possible so the embellishments are not compressed.

A breathable garment or cotton storage bag is preferable to long-term storage in a tightly sealed plastic bag.

  • Keep away from damp and direct light
  • Add tissue between folds for beaded pieces
  • Cedar or lavender keeps moths away
Atelier care

IV · How to handle snags

Atelier care

Crochet is made from interconnected loops, so it can catch on jewellery, bags, furniture and rough surfaces.

If a crochet loop catches:

Do not pull it. Do not immediately cut it.

Gently ease the loop back into place where possible. For significant snags or loose stitches, we recommend having the piece assessed by an experienced crochet specialist or seamstress.

  • Remove jewellery with sharp edges before dressing
  • Avoid rough surfaces and velcro
  • Ask the atelier before attempting a repair
